What’s the Extra Credit Edit?

With many folks stuck at home during the pandemic, MOFF’s response was to organize a short film contest in spring 2020 called the EXTRA CREDIT ADVENTURE EDIT.
The filmmaker engagement and creativity was inspiring. Links to watch all finalist films are below on this page (be sure to click on the individual film pages below to watch and read more about each filmmaker). MOFF – and it’s sponsors – awarded $250 to the audience award winner in each category, and $250 to the jury award winner in each category, on May 20.

Extra Credit Adventure Edit

A special challenge for adventure filmmakers (or regular people who know how to edit) from the Maine Outdoor Film Festival

Your Assignment:

  • open to anyone, free to enter
  • All submissions must be less than 4 minutes long and an outdoor film (i.e. filmed outside or related to outdoor adventure or conservation… MOFF reserves final say)
  • All music must be credited and used with permission
  • Submissions due to MOFF by April 25, 2020 May 6, 2020 – to submit your film, email a downloadable link (vimeo, dropbox, Drive, etc.), subject line: “Extra Credit Adventure Edit” moff@maineoutdoorfilmfestival.com
  • Enter in one of four loose categories:
    • Old timer’s edit (footage from pre-2000 only)
    • Nature Meditation (music and landscapes)
    • Profile piece (athlete, maker, place etc.)
    • Highlight Reel
  • Or enter in the special category for new footage:
    • PSA for modern times (think: social distancing or “How to Home School Your Kid When You Never Intended To” or even a thank you to those on the front line)
  • The finalists in each category will be chosen by our jury and then all the finalists will premiere on April 30 May 13, at 7pm eastern LIVE on MOFF’s vimeo channel/website
  • The next day (May 14) voting will open and the winners will be announced on May 20.
  • By submitting to this contest, you agree to all terms listed on our submit page

Prizes:
Each category will have both a $250 Audience Award and a $250 Jury Award.

Timeline:
Production and Post-production: Today through May 6
Submission deadline: April 25 May 6
May 13: Online premiere viewing party!
May 14: Video finalists are uploaded and online voting begins at maineoutdoorfilmfestival.com. Only one vote per email address please.
May 20: Winners Announced live

Storytelling: 30%
Outdoor spirit: 25%
Soundtrack: 20%
Cinematographic quality: 15%
Humor/Positivity: 10%
