Shooting this film during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was important that we honor the subject of the film on “social distancing” by keeping a safe distance between the filmmaker and talent. That barrier limited the creative process in someways but also was the driving narrative thread of the project. The filmmaker wanted to use only available, natural light and a soundtrack composed of outdoor sounds and atmosphere not accompanied by music to draw the viewer into the experience of an isolated Maine hike during a time of social crisis. Lastly the filmmaker and subject wanted to pick a short, less trafficked, local hike to connect with a broad audience (kids, seniors, casual hikers) but also to emphasize the idea that people should be staying close to home and not over populating “major” hiking spots.
