Three thoughts from the filmmaker:

“Blazing Trail was very much a shared passion project, cooked up in mid-2020 as the initial COVID-19 lockdown restrictions began to ease in Australia. Like many filmmakers our calendars got obliterated and we needed something to focus on, and reignite the passion.

Physically the most difficult part of making the film was carrying our heavy equipment up a big rugged mountain to shoot the majority of the trail running scenes. Racing the setting sun to reach the summit before sunset. Everyone, including the protagonist/athlete Caine, was carrying 30kg of gear, hiking and scrambling up a steep ridge for hours. We just made it, amid cramps and exhaustion. The drone was almost lost in in high winds, and shooting repeated technical running scenes was a challenge. But we got the shots! “
