Jeff and Angela wanted to have a camping trip that never ended, and to see if they could live off the land. So they dropped out of college to attend the “school of life.” They hired a boat captain to ferry them (along with kayaks, snowboards and 30,000 pounds of building materials) to a patch of spectacular wilderness tucked between a glacier and the Gulf of Alaska, seventy miles from the nearest outpost. “This Place Called Nuka: Courting Adventure in Wild Alaska” brings their adventure to life.

My parents fell for Maine when I was seven years old. On a lake in the Maine woods I discovered a relationship to the outdoors that had been missing in the suburbs of Boston. It changed me. The river valley where my parents built their cabin inspired my company’s name: Sheepscot Creative. In my twenties, I lived there for stretches. My parents live there part-time still, and I visit every chance I get.
Sheepscot Creative produced “”This Place Called Nuka.”” We’re a small agency in Portland, Oregon, that helps clients communicate more effectively, internally and to the world.
