The 2025 Maine Outdoor Film Festival: Portland Flagship Exceeded Expectations

The five-day festival hosted 35 filmmakers from across the country and featured 95 films, 20 unique screenings, 5 panel discussions, 3 networking events, and 3 sold-out shows.

The Maine Outdoor Film Festival (MOFF) successfully wrapped its sixth Portland flagship festival on Sunday, July 27th with record-breaking turnout.

MOFF hosted five days of outdoor screenings of conservation and adventure films, as well as panel discussions, networking events, and filmmaker Q&As. The response from attendees was nothing short of incredible:

“Thank you so much for, yet again, an incredible series of short films during the Lupine program. It lit my soul on fire!”

“This was my first time attending. The films I saw were outstanding! Great comedy and laughs and very interesting documentaries.”

“You guys do such great work. This festival is a huge benefit to the community.”

“I’m a new Mainer and felt so welcomed by the energy of everyone at the screenings! It made me feel so much closer to the place I now call home.”

MOFF kicked off with our Maine Filmmaker Showcase on the Eastern Promenade, which featured exclusively Maine-made short films. The event sold out in the days leading up to our kickoff and attracted dozens of Maine filmmakers and members of the Maine film community.

This year’s MOFF also included a host of feature film screenings, including two Maine-adjacent feature films: CANOE DIG IT, written by Maine-born filmmaker Samuel Francis Daunis Dunning and is set in Moosehead Lake. Also, A MOMENT IN THE SUN, shot in Houlton, Maine, which was featured in Forbes Magazine in promotion of their MOFF screening.

This year’s flagship festival also featured international films from 20 different countries and gathered filmmakers from Canada and Dubai alongside filmmakers from across the United States. There were 14 Maine premieres, 23 New England premieres, 2 United States premieres, 3 North American premieres, and 3 World premieres.
