THE LAST LAST HIKE – 19.9 minutes – by Céline François – from Washington – Short synopsis: 83-year-old Nimblewill Nomad is about to become the oldest person to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. But he didn’t start at Springer Mountain, Georgia – his trek began on Flagg Mountain in Alabama, the true southern terminus of the Appalachian Mountain Range. Throughout his odyssey, he’s meeting hikers along the way and sharing the magic of Flagg Mountain, where he has been the caretaker for the past three years. With more than two decades and 50,000 miles of hiking experience behind him, will this really be his last last hike?

FIRE IN THE WILDERNESS – 11.6 minutes – by Mark Kreider – from Montana – Short synopsis: This film shows leading fire ecologists working to better understand wildfire in Western U.S. wilderness areas and highlights the importance of allowing fire to express itself as a fundamental natural process.

DAY TRIPPER – 5.9 minutes – by Connor Davis – from Maine – Short synopsis: Day Tripper is a New England ski adventure with three simple goals: 1) Ski as much as possible 2) See as much as possible 3) Get home before bedtime. We’re happy to have you along for the ride.

THE LONG TRAVERSE – 21.25 minutes – by Keenan Desplanques, Christopher Blevins – from California – Short synopsis: The Long Traverse chronicles World Champion mountain biker, Christopher Blevins, as he introduces a new FKT (Fastest Known Time) route in the Los Padres National Forest. Through this effort, the film showcases his changing relationship to the land and highlights the environmental and social issues facing the area, including the increasing severity of forest fires, and the harm created by extractive industry. The film seeks to inspire viewers to think more deeply about their relationship to the places they recreate.

INTERMISSION

SAVING GLACIERS – 8.5 minutes – by Ciril Jazbec – from Slovenia – Short synopsis: A scientist and his team on a mission to save the inevitable melting of glaciers in the Alps. Determined that the melting and eventual disappearance of the glaciers in the Alps can be averted, dr. Felix Keller, a Swiss glaciologist, and his team set out to develop a complex snow cabling system, recycling glacial meltwater into snow. Unlike others, their solution can be scaled up enough to save an entire Morteratsch glacier. Enthusiasm, resilience, and love for the Alps reflect in these locals’ efforts to save the winter for future generations.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ULTRARUNNER – 9.8 minutes – by Vera Neverkevich Hill – from Alberta – Short synopsis: A Canadian ultra-marathoner and father of three attempts to establish a new record by running across his home province of Alberta, on Canada’s busiest highway.

SNOWSTORM – 4.5 minutes – by David Busse – from Wisconsin – Short synopsis: A meditative glimpse of birds navigating a snowstorm on Lake Michigan.

CRAFT – 11.5 minutes – by Mattias Evangelista – from Washington – Short synopsis: Professional skiers, Micah Evangelista and Zack Giffin, have based their lives and careers around the mountains, but it’s their passions off the hill that keep them balanced and grounded.

DREAMS INHERITED – 9.2 minutes – by Jessica Wilde – from Florida – Short synopsis: Dreams Inherited is a short documentary about the search for adventure in a life away from the luxuries of land. It is about the realization of dreams that were passed down by family folklore through hard work and small moments of meaning. It features Jessica Wilde, Josh Fody and Ling Ling, their 42-year-old Kelly Peterson sailboat that they spent years renovating and eventually sailing up and down the East Coast from the Florida Keys to Maine.
